Alistair Cronk, at 49, brings a lifetime of multisport passion and professional insight to Ultimate Sports Coaching. As a dedicated husband and dad, Alistair deeply understands the balance required to integrate high-level training into a full life. His athletic journey began in 1989 with running and cycling, quickly expanding to encompass a variety of school sports. By 1991, he focused on Duathlon and Triathlon, where he achieved provincial colours, a testament to his early dedication and talent.
Following school, Alistair transitioned to professional cycling, competing for three years as a Pro-Am cyclist on the demanding South African circuit. This invaluable experience, coupled with his foundational work as a fitness instructor, has given him a comprehensive understanding of athlete development from both competitive and foundational standpoints.
A familiar voice at major events since 1993, Alistair has lent his expertise as a commentator for Cycling, Running, and Mountain Bike events, offering him an unparalleled perspective on race dynamics and athlete performance. Committed to continuous learning, he further solidified his coaching credentials by obtaining his Level 2 Road and Track Cycling qualification.
A formidable endurance athlete himself, Alistair has conquered the iconic Comrades Marathon an impressive 15 times, with a personal best of 8 hours and 42 minutes. He is also a finisher of the Full Ironman and numerous Ironman 70.3 events. Demonstrating remarkable endurance and adventure, Alistair has successfully completed the arduous Thomson Smillie Foundation 12-day cycling tour from Pont Drift to Cape Town on 3 occasions, embodying the very challenges he helps his athletes overcome.
Alistair specialises in coaching cyclists of all levels across road, track, and mountain biking. He collaborates closely with the team of qualified USC coaches, ensuring every athlete receives a truly holistic and individualised approach, recognising that each person is a unique entity with specific needs and goals.
